About Netru Ponavai

“Netru Ponavai” is an emotional yet reassuring song about accepting loss, preserving memories and finding the strength to continue with life. Rather than asking someone to erase the past, the song gently says to let what has already gone remain in yesterday while allowing its memories to stay in a corner of the heart.

The lyrics move through broken dreams, relationships that were once believed to be permanent and the pain of unexpectedly losing something that was carefully nurtured. At the same time, the song reminds the listener that neither possessions nor losses are permanent. Time continues to move, and even deep emotional wounds can gradually pass when a person learns to let go.

Lines about not crying only over what has been lost and not forgetting what still remains form the emotional heart of the song. Later, the imagery of thunder, storms and whirlwinds suggests that difficult phases may repeatedly enter life, but they too eventually pass. The presence of someone steady “like a root” can also help restore balance.

With Shankar Mahadevan’s expressive vocals, Anirudh Ravichander’s melodic composition and Vignesh Shivan’s reflective lyrics, “Netru Ponavai” becomes a song about grief without hopelessness — acknowledging pain while ultimately choosing acceptance, memories and moving forward.

Interesting Facts About Netru Ponavai

“Netru Ponavai” brings Shankar Mahadevan and Anirudh Ravichander together again after around 12 years. Shankar’s powerful, mature vocal style is used here for a softer and more reflective composition rather than a conventional mass number.
The arrangement incorporates a musical reference to the “Rathamaarey” theme from the first Jailer. This creates a subtle musical connection between Jailer and Jailer 2 while fitting naturally into the emotional mood of “Netru Ponavai.”
